"In totality, the show was spectacular and it was a dream-come-true"
These were the remarks of Mr. Alexander S. Acosta after the success of the launching of Hiyaw, a cultural show and gratitude night of the PSDians held at Al Ghazal Club last March 6.

"For eight years, I have dreamt of having a cultural show in PSD and this is the year that the dream came true" Mr. Acosta added.

The initial plan to raise funds for the completion of the construction of the new campus, HIYAW turned out to be more than that. It became an instrument to showcase the various talents of students which were further honed by their teachers. Moreover, it was also a way of reviving the appreciation for Filipino folk songs and dances which are regarded by most youngsters as passé.

HIYAW, a collaboration of two words, Himig (sound) and Sayaw (dance) showcases the cultural diversity of our country. A lot of effort was exerted from different people in preparation of the said event. From the PSD Dance Troupe to the PSD Chorale, to the production staff and other students, almost everyone was busy with the event since the start of practices.

The program started with the awarding of tokens to pioneer and loyal parents who have supported PSD since its establishment. It was followed by the giving of the first set of gratitude gifts to the community members. Then it was followed by the production number that welcomed everyone who attended and supported the show.

Elated by the comments of guests who were a combination of Filipino and foreign groups, Mr. Acosta said, "I have indescribable feeling about the performance of everyone. I was simply amazed. There was no question about the performance. Improvement was there."

He also added that aside from the promising performers showcasing their talents, they were also able to uphold one of the visions of the school which impose cultural, artistic and nationalistic values. "I am very thankful to all the club moderators who have shared and transferred their talents and versatility to the students. I want to congratulate everyone and I need not mention names."

Mr. Jose Patubo, one of the main organizers of the event and PSD Dance Troupe moderator, said that he was very happy about the positive outcome of HIYAW. The students gave a splendid performance." "Little by little the students are learning to embrace and appreciate the Philippine culture. I'd say it was a 100% success." Mr. Patubo added. He said that if given a chance, he'd like to do it all-over again.

The fund raising also reached its expected outcome. The tickets sold reached a total of 781 booklets. "It met our expectations. I would like to thank the parents, the students, the community leaders and everyone involved for supporting the fund raising. We met the expected target and all of these will be directed to the completion of the new facilities."

The parents said that the tickets were worth buying and that the show was really excellent. "It surpassed our expectations" a parent said.
The prizes were awarded a couple of days after the show.
