Philippine School Doha, being the prominent learning institution in Qatar as far as Philippine rudimentary education is concerned, held its annual general assembly and board of trustees election last July 20 in PSD gym. The program started with an invocation that soon led to the opening address of the secretary of the board, Mrs. Claire Vistal, who also emceed the said occurrence.

To highlight the said event, Dr. Alexander S. Acosta, PSD school principal, gave his report on the achievements of the institution both academics and non-academics. Afterwards, the BOT chairman Mr. Gerardo P. Macasa, Jr. delivered his statement on the operations and accomplishments of PSD. Successively, Engr. Josell Leanda gave his vibrant report on the Audited Financial Declaration of the school.

The second part of the event was the election of the PSD-BOT. Each nominee was introduced and each gave his own speeches. Mr. Edgar Bondoc (Vice Chairman), Mrs. Clarivic Vistal (Teacher Representative), Engr. Josell Leanda (BOT Treasurer), and Mr. Benifredo Patron (Community Representative) were the ones who ran again on the same posts. "The challenges that PSD faces are enormous and everyone should work together to attain the progress that we want to achieve" the words given by Mr. Edgar V. Bondoc, who is considered honest and well-intentioned professional by many PSDians.

Subsequently, everyone was given a five-minute break before the election of trustees for the ensuing fiscal year. PSDI members casted their ballots for the vacated slots of the board which then followed with the declaration of the new BOT for FY 2012-2013, who are as follows:

  • Chairman - Gerardo P. Macasa, Jr.
  • Vice - Chairman - Edgar V. Bondoc
  • Secretary/Teacher Representative - Clarivic M. Vistal
  • Treasurer - Josel S. Leanda
  • Auditor - Romeo A. Ocfemia, Jr.
  • Parent Member - Andres S. Ferrer, Jr.
  • Community Member - Benifrado C. Patron
  • Community Member - Ruby Socorro D. Santander
  • Philippine Embassy Representative - Vice Consul Melvin C. Almonguera
  • School Principal - Alexander S. Acosta, Ph. D.

The result of the election is expected to bring long term gains for the institution. As stated by the BOT chairman, Mr. Gerardo P. Macasa, Jr. who is now on its second year of service that the true hallmark of a resilient, operative institution is a smooth transition to a new life. PSD wants to have upright and reputable leaders to guide its people. The turnout of the elections is a good sign what the school wants to be. It is not only the students and teachers who mold the institution; active parents also partake in the growth of PSD. While the driving force behind a school's success is the students, parents serve as its trigger for development.
