Teachers and staff from different levels and departments were united again last July 23 in this event organized especially for them. With this year's theme, "Strengthening Teamwork through Sports", teachers and staff of Philippine School Doha were invigorated to practice good teamwork and having fun while conducting the sports fest.
The PSD Teachers' Intramurals is an annual event which started four years ago that enables all employees of the school to experience a sports event like those of students and to relax after a hard day's work. All were gathered into groups and were made to contend with each other in a fair play.
"The purpose of the event is to unwind the staff, to relieve from stress caused by heavy workloads and to build camaraderie among PSD staff", according to Mr. Alexander S. Acosta, the school's principal and a member of the Yellow Tigers. The teachers and staff were grouped into four teams namely: The Blue Eagles, the Red Warriors, the Yellow Tigers, and the Green Archers. All of them are entailed to work as a whole in their respective teams and try to out win the others.
Everyone expected much from the event. A lot of them said they wanted to have fun and enjoy the sports fest. Mr. Edgar Tuquib, chairman of the board of directors is expecting that everyone will develop good teamwork and a lot of fun and that solidarity and cooperation will uphold.
A recap of the results of the past sports fest was mentioned by Mr. Michaelino Saratan, the emcee for the said festivity, before the start of the program with the Yellow Tigers being the overall champion. The event proper started at exactly 5:20 pm with a prayer led by Ms. Clarivic Vistal, member of the Red Warriors.
The opening remarks were stated by Dr. Acosta followed by an aerobic exercise led by four teachers, one from each team. To highlight the event, the muses and escorts were introduced in a runway pageant walk. Each pair showed different styles to astound the audience and the judges. The aftermath of the runway walk hadn't subsided yet, but the anticipated cheering competition followed shortly. The teams showcased ingenuity and creativity in coming up with a prodigious choreography. The cheering competition was followed by the Laro ng Lahi: a relay of different Filipino games.
After the Laro ng Lahi, the winners were acknowledged starting with the Best Muse and Escort taken away by the Blue Eagles, the cheering competition by the Green Archers (Hilaw Version), and the Laro ng Lahi by the Red Warriors. The announcement of winners was succeeded by some closing remarks by the emcee and an intense prayer. It was declared that a follow-up event will happen on July 24.
The Teachers' Intramurals became another part of history for the faculty and staff of PSD. The sports fest was definitely dominated by camaraderie and teamwork.
