Philippine School Doha

For the first time in history of Philippine School Doha (PSD), the institution launched a family program dubbed as "Family Earth 2011" where the event aspires to actively promote the preservation of the environment. Seven candidates of different department levels competed with each other. The event kicked-off last September 2011 and the coronation was held last January 13 which showcased the theme costume in line with Family Earth's Theme "Green Earth: A Family's Gift to the New Generation… PSD FAMILY EARTH: A Commitment…"

Family Earth Pageant is a testament of class, beauty and grace of filipino family. Seven families of the institution competed for the crown who caught the attention of the crowd. This also served as a fund-raising scheme for the improvement needs of PSD. The seven families who competed in the said event were the following: Belarmino Family, Canonicato Family, De Leon Family, Manila Family, Quiogue Family, Sadiwa Family and Soriano Family. All the families gave an elegant and exemplary performance during the entire competition.

During the final night of the competition which was hosted by Mr. Derek Vallesteros, Ms. Mylene Santiago and Ms. Len Castro, every representative of each family was indeed stunning with their attires. Every family used recycled materials in order to make their theme costume. Aside from that, each family also prepared video presentations which served as their advocacies about saving Mother Earth. The families speak of their environmental platform and personal thoughts.

Numerous special awards were given away during the pageant night. The Best in Talent was succeeded by the Belarmino Family. Best in Advocacy, Best in Sports Wear and Best Theme Costume were awarded to the Canonicato Family. De Leon Family took the Best in Formal Wear while Manila Family was chosen as Best in Casual Wear and Viewer's Choice Award amounting to 6415.75 Riyals.

Family Earth pageant aims of assuring that each of the participating candidates is not just physically beautiful, but environmentally knowledgeable. The Top 3 Finalists were revealed after the announcement of special awards. De Leon Family, Sadiwa Family and Manila Family were chosen to compete for the crown.

They proceeded in the Question and Answer portion and all three finalists will explain one environmental question. The candidates will be assessed based on the judges' over-all impression on the candidate to determine the final ranking. No single final question was asked; instead, images were flashed on screen and each of the three finalists were tasked to tell something about it within two minutes.

Manila Family was awarded 2nd runner up, 1st runner up is the Sadiwa Family and the very first PSD Family Earth 2011 winner is the De Leon Family. They were given bouquets, trophies and plaque of appreciation. "We offer the success we received to God. He's the one we'll be giving the acknowledgement. He's the best. He's the one who decided and gave this to us. So we really don't know how it happened. My first mission as a Family Earth 2011 winner is to help the school as much as I could and will try to help all the moms in the school that might be in need of my help and presence if I'm available." Mrs. De Leon stated.

Dr. Alexander Acosta expressed his beggaring description of appreciation to all PSDians who gave their support to the institution. He was enchanted of what PSD has achieved not only in events but also in many ways for the school shows its best. He assured that he will continue to support the High School Department for whatever projects or plans they have during their hosting in expanding the Save the Mother Earth Campaign.

All the events were judged by three beauty and fashion experts namely Mr. Ronald Francisco, a Fashion Designer of Lareen Fashions; Mr. Erlindo Arcueza, a senior staff of 51 East and Mr. Pete Gallardo , image stylist of Ala Mode Style Studio.
