Realizing one of its biggest activities for this school year, the Intermediate Department held the Scout's Investiture and Encampment at the gym last December 10-20 to train its pupils with the disciplines and values of scouting.
With its aim of developing a sense of responsible leadership and building camaraderie among the pupils, the event had an action-packed program that consisted of the investiture ceremony of the boy and girl scouts.
Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Mr. Joseph B. Dosado inspired the scouts in his welcome remarks while Officer-in-charge Mrs. Minda B. Reyes emphasized that a scout must walk his talk.
The second part of the scouting activity was the encampment held on the following days, December 11-12. The girl scouts conducted their encampment right after the investiture ceremony in the school campus where the pupils enjoyed their troop bonding and camp fire in the evening and moved to Marina Camp in Al Khor in the morning for their skills competitions.
With the departure of the girl scouts from the campsite on Friday, the boy scouts then followed to settle in their designated camps for their overnight encampment until the afternoon of Saturday. The scouts were actively and enthusiastically involved in the different skills training such as knot-tying, map reading, camp cooking, first aid, and scout marching. The highlight of these events was the camp fire where the scouts showcased their talents and skills through their different yells, cheers and cultural presentations.
"It was fun because I made new friends and I showed my best in the activities," said Windsor Ashley M. Villamor, a pupil from Grade 5-Temperance.
More than the fun and camaraderie of each participant, the event was aimed at stressing the importance of responsibility, preparedness and total commitment to teamwork.
Parents also showed their support to the activity, "We enjoyed it like we used to do when we were in grade school and got the chance to participate in our son's scouting activity which we will treasure." said Mrs. Josephine Johar, a participant parent.
With the praises given to the completion of the project, the department coordinator expressed her gratitude to all those who extended their support for the scouting event.
"This year is a big comeback for scouting in PSD. We would like to thank the parents for their unending support and the Qatar Scouts and Guides Association for welcoming PSD scouts into their organization." Mrs. Paulita D. Pal, the Intermediate Department and School Scouting Coordinator said.
